Old songs sung by an old institution. The psalms probably come from between the ninth and fifth century BC, and King’s College is from 1441. This record is from considerably later. It is good Christmas music, if you are tired of Wham!
This recording is from 1969, and sounds remarkably good for its time. I wonder what they did on the remastering that Spotify offers. For lovers of the English choir tradition, this is a must hear. But if you are, you probably know.
I once visited the chapel of King’s College where this was performed. It is every bit as beautiful as the images suggest. The walls are very light and thin. The ceiling is really beautiful, and wide. It must have been a wonder of its age, but still never fails to impress.
