I know nothing about Fernanda Maria, except that she was born in 1937. Not much further does my knowledge of Portuguese go, so I cannot reach the informative website of a fado museum. On other records she calls herself the Queen of fado. A title that is contested: it was also claimed for Amalia Rodrigues, was it not?
Lacking a more detailed biography, I have to create an image of the lady using what I do have: the cover. She looks homely, does she not? Not sexy, more like a friendly mother. Something is off though: what is that gun doing above the fireplace? Is that meant to fend off the fascists that were controlling the country of Portugal until in the seventies? It looks like a countryside home, were those so unsafe that the inhabitants needed a shotgun?
