Melissa Etheridge’s debut album from 1989, with the hit Like the way I do. Easily the best song she made, and also her personal favourite. Though it did well in my country, it was only a minor hit in the US, and it didn’t even appear in the Billboard list when it was released in 1988. In the US the hit single was Bring me some water.
Something music executives must be wondering: why is the one single a hit, and the other a failure? I once heard that internationally the Netherlands was seen as an easy market to start if you want to reach Europe from the US. I have no idea if that is still the same, but clearly here it didn’t quite work: the first single from this album was a total failure, and the second only got some traction after it was re-released in a live version in 1993.
