Born in IJmuiden, but at home in Sweden. This was actually the first published record in Dutch, but Vreeswijk already had started a successful career in Sweden, where he debuted eight years earlier in 1964. It’s a bit like a best of with many well known songs, like De nozem en de non.
From the wiki site Vreeswijk comes across as a bit of an adventurer. Some songs he wrote were not allowed on the radio because of the offensive lyrics, he sent his family to the Netherlands while he stayed in Sweden to make his career, and he had a bit of a disagreement with the Swedish taxes. He never got to be a Swede, and died in 1987, just fifty years old.
