Interesting songs, well performed and superbly recorded. If you like French romantic songs this is worth a listen. These are classical songs of the romantic era, by Enescu, Roussel and Debussy. Incidentally, George Enescu is Romanian by birth, but lived in Paris.
On the cover of this album is featured the Chansons de Bilitis. A curious work, composed by Debussy on the poetry by Pierre Louÿs (1895). It can be considered lesbian erotic literature. The poet was a close friend of Debussy, so he put three of the poems to music, and later added more. Bilitis is a woman in ancient Greece, writing about her sexual escapades. According to the introduction the words were taken from a tomb in Cyprus, and it took scholars some time to find out about this mystification.
