En Calcat is situated in the very south of France, near the Pyrenees. It is part of the biggest group of Benedictine monasteries, led by the original abbey of the order in Monte Cassino, Italy. It was founded in 1890, when the catholic church got back on its feet in many countries after having suffered state prosecution for all kinds of reasons.
I found a whole collection of these at my local record store, and I was amazed I could buy them for one euro each. I don’t think many people value this kind of music, but it is also not easy to find. So finding a small collection like this is quite rare. These are recordings of high quality, each with a very different sound and atmosphere.
