Sarah Gorby was a Russian singer from Kishinev, what is now called Chișinău, the capitol of Moldova. Just 17 years old she moved to Iași, Romania where she met and married a publisher that also spoke Yiddish. It was the start of a very cosmopolitan and multilingual music career. It brought her all over the world and taught her no less than eight languages, including, as presented on this recording: Yiddish.
A nice voice singing one of the more interesting styles: the Jewish culture on the Spanish peninsula. Back when I visited Spain more frequently, I stumbled upon a festival celebrating the mix between three cultures: Arabian, Jewish and Christian. The melting pot is very much alive in Spain, and I think it can lead to very interesting music.
