This title makes me so sad. For everybody but the Dutch: His most beautiful violin concertos. And then it goes on to number all five concertos. Why not 1-5? Why most beautiful if you then include all of them? Did Mozart write more violin concertos I don’t know about maybe? Alright, I’ll get my coat.
At one point in my life I discovered these gems, and I listened to them a lot. I taped all five on cassette, and enjoyed them. Then I forgot them, forgot Mozart and moved on. Years later I tried these again and I was so disappointed. The English Chamber Orchestra has a good name, Spivakov I know from the Tchaikovsky concerto, but somehow the combination on this recording reeks of cheap music. It aims to please too much I think.
Someone once told me that when you’re young, you might like Mozart. Then you hate him. Only at the end of your life you’ll rediscover him as the brilliant composer he was. Luckily I have not reached the end.
