Seoul-born Kyung-wha Chung is the classical child prodigy: starting at age four on the piano and at seven on the violin. She comes from a family of seven, and has two siblings that also ended up in the performing arts: younger brother Myung-whun Chung is a conductor, Myung-wha Chung is a cellist. All of the seven are playing classical instruments however.

Kyung-wha Chung grew into an international superstar, and an example for many children in South Korea to follow. A long line of recordings followed, from 1970 onwards. Then illness and age took her abilities, and she performed live considerably less. Her last performance in 2014 she found herself the target of a controversy when she tried to shush a coughing child in her line of sight by talking to the parents. Kyung-wha Chung is still alive, but I’m not sure if she’s still performing. Her wiki page is not mentioning it, and at 76 I doubt she’s doing anything else than teaching.

A very nice recording, well performed, and wholeheartedly recommended.
