Great balls of fire

Dolly Parton’s 21st solo studio album from 1979 is filled with different styles related to pop. Mss Parton wanted to give it all to make her ambition true: to get a spot between pop music’s superstars. Country clearly didn’t pay as much.

Yet as negative as I can be about this album, I have to admit that again, Dolly Parton delivers. Maybe a little slick here and there, but for instance a bluegrass styled Help! from the Beatles is… interesting. Commercially the album was a moderate success: it went gold in the same year, but for a star like Dolly Parton it could be better.
