A combined release form of Son House and J.D. Short. About Son House I already wrote, so let’s take a look at J.D. Short. Short was born just west of the Mississippi river at the start of the last century. He enjoyed fame as a pianist, but he played many more instruments. In the early sixties he was part of the blues revival, but not for long: he died of a heart attack in 1962.
A curious story is told by the blues singer Henry Townsend in his autobiography. Townsend was stabbed twice by Short, and he shot him in the balls in revenge. I don’t read anything about an expected court case. Did Short just accept this? He must have hated what was done to him. And if Townsend wrote about this in his autobiography, wouldn’t that result in paying damages? These were different times indeed.
