This is Puerto Rican singer Gabriel Rios’ fourth studio album from 2014. Rios was born in 1978 in Puerto Rico, and moved after finishing his music education to the Belgium city of Ghent. Maybe resulting from his new found domicile, he is most popular in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2006 one of his songs was used in the movie 06/05 about the murder of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn.
This album shows Rios in a more acoustic setting, coupled with double bass player and producer Ruben Samama and cellist Amber Docters van Leeuwen. I think the use of the cello on this album is a good example on how to do it: not too much, but clearly a melodic connector. Especially the first song, Gold, is recommended.
