There is a toilet on the cover! We cannot have that, thought the censor in 1965, so the original cover got banned really early. The wiki page suggests that the original cover is reaching great highs on the market, fetching as much as 300 dollar on an auction. I don’t know, I see covers like that, from the US and as early as 1965 for just under 2 dollar (monaural, granted). According to that same wiki page, this picture is also taken in the bathroom, but it is covered completely by the faces of the band. I don’t see any proof of that, but nice story. Now let’s put aside the cover issues and spelling of the name of the band.

This is happy music from a careless time and place. Or at least it feels that way. It’s like surf music, sun, freedom, cars and the American dream. In that respect it is a bit like The Beach Boys. It is very far from the protest generation that was also organising the largest anti-war protest ever to have happened in the U.S., in the same year.
