Beethoven – Musik für Bläser

Discogs

De Nederlands Blazers Ensemble was founded in 1959 from the wind section of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. It has established itself over the years as a specialist in crossover (combining classical music with anything else, mostly light music). The wiki site reads like marketing blurb from the ensemble itself, so I’m skipping it. I did come across some well known names (okay, for me): Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Edo de Waart led the ensemble for a while, and hoboist Han de Vries played with them.

The image on the cover shows them with their instruments in a location I recognise. It is the inside of a sculpture in the garden of the Kröller-Müller Museum: the Jardin d’email (Enamel garden), made by Jean Dubuffet. It is representing a garden made of enamel, where you can immerse yourself in a different world. I got that from another marketing blurb, but it is true this time. You go in via a small stairway on the side, and you find yourself in very strange surroundings.
