Murdered ballads

The same friend who got me into The Corries, also recommended this strange singer. Hamish Imlach was born in 1940 in Calcutta, then still in British hands. A tiny, obese man, he was known to treat his audience to lively performances, and his lyrics were full of jokes. In fact, it was due to these jokes his biggest hit was banned by the BBC in the 60s.

I’m currently listening to him on my streamer, and I do admit he’s better than I remember him. It might be because years ago he just wasn’t… the Corries. He was this lonely man with just a guitar, with silly songs. Now I can judge him for himself, and he is indeed worth it. Recommended.
