Villa-Lobos – As nove Bachianas Brasileiras vol. 2

Discogs

These records have a weird plastic covering, both outside and inside. It is like the paper needs to be protected by plastic on all sides. These are Brazilian pressings from the 60s, in mono. They are performed by the composer himself. In itself that makes them interesting. However, the sound is so bad, it just doesn’t compensate.

With parts 3 and 4 we go into pianistic territory. Both works were written for piano, with the first in combination with orchestra. The 4th is here performed by the orchestra, in an orchestration Villa-Lobos arranged a few years later, in 1942.

The liner notes at the back of the cover are also in, I guess, Brazilian Portuguese. I’m trying google translate on it, but the protective plastic around it blocks a clear picture, making character recognition too much of a challenge for Brother Google.
