At the lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a bar that opened mostly for jazz performances back in 1949. It is located in Hermosa Beach, southwest of downtown Los Angeles. As a jazz venue, it focused on West Coast jazz. Many local jazz artists, but also bigger names had performances there. It also delivered a host of recordings, like this one.

Apparently this venue didn’t have the drugs issue that plagued Club St Germain in Paris. It stayed open, though it did change the music a bit during that time. Lately there are jazz performances again at the Lighthouse Café, as it was renamed in 1981.

Mine is a reprint of the original, with the liner notes on the inside of the gatefold. This is a high quality recording, and this pressing is also good. This is one of those records I would like to try in peak quality though (more on that later…).
