53 million copies have been sold as of 2023. The debut album of Ravi Shankar’s daughter Norah Jones, released in 2002 on the famous jazz label Blue Note. I specifically mention that, because there was doubt if they should release it. The album is jazz, but barely. It is a mix of pop, blues and jazz, but what is mostly the issue for the label, also a bit of folk.
Polyphonic HMI claims to have predicted the success of the album using it’s main AI music analysis product His Song Science. This was in the early days of the album, when there was still doubt on its hit potential (also of AI btw). Although there is discussion about the scientific accuracy and theoretical basis of the machine learning concept, the facts don’t lie: it seems reliable in predicting pop hits.
