Music from Creek Country

During the two years of its existence, I was visiting the Once in a blue moon festival in Amsterdam. It turned out to be twice in a blue moon, I think mainly because of bad planning and the corona epidemic. In the second year, I came across Tim Knol and the Blue Grass Boogiemen. They are playing traditional blue grass, as it is featured in the Coen brother’s movie O brother, where art thou?

Just like in that movie, we see here all the musicians playing around one microphone, almost fighting for a good spot. The dynamics of each depend on their position. At the festival I saw it live, and it was as if I was visiting that movie.

Tim Knol is what I’d like to call a network musician. He is someone that seems to know everybody in the scene, and can get along fine with all of them. Because of that, he is found in all kinds of places, in all kinds of connections. The last record of him I wrote about was made because of the closing of a record store in Amsterdam. There is a real love for music in him, I think.
