Stephane Grappelli plays George Gershwin

Somehow this record put me on the wrong foot. I expected a bit of classical music, but halfway through the first half I realized I was listening to jazz. I’ve not listened to it that much, so this is what might happen. It was the moment that I realized it was quite good.

The French Stephane Grappelli (as his name implied, of Italian descent) is known as the grandfather of jazz violinists. I don’t know how many grandsons/daughters he has: I have not heard the instrument played in jazz, as far as I remember. Gershwin is good for this, for sure. Grappelli used to play with Django Reinhardt mainly, but also appeared occasionally with greats like Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington.
