Australian singer and multi instrumentalist Xavier Rudd is in my country best known for his hit Follow the sun. It was used in a commercial for a travel organization to advertise its carefree vacations in the sun. The song is from 2012, the commercial from 2015 and this album from 2022. Follow the sun is not on it.
Rudd was born in a place called Jan Juc in the south of Australia. This is surf country, and Rudd is no exception. He is also highly spiritual and so is his music. Apart from a Dutch grandfather (from Tilburg), he also claims heritage from aboriginals, and is very vocal about their rights. This activist stance is everywhere in his music.
I once saw him live, and he exceeded my expectations. It was one of these concerts where you are just taken to by someone else, but it made a lasting impression.
