Mercy, mercy, mercy – Live at The Club

Discogs

Julian “Cannonball” Adderley recorded this with his quintet in October 1966 in a studio lot in in Hollywood owned by Capitol. The place was dressed up like a bar, and had free drinks for an invited audience. Later Adderley added in the liner notes that the concert was recorded in a bar called DeLisa in Chicago. He was friends with the manager and wanted to give him some free publicity.

The title tune of this album became an unexpected hit, but the other songs on this album are equally great. It all swings and has a great atmosphere. Mercy Mercy Mercy became Adderley’s most popular album. As with many albums around this time, I bought this after hearing it for some time on my streaming service, who tipped me on it.
