Als ik God was

To say that Dutch singer Froukje Veenstra is a product of the pandemic would be presumptuous. However, it was in that challenging time that she found her feet. Born in 2001, Froukje is still young, and to read that at that age she already decided to not renew her contract at record company Top Notch and do it all herself seems indeed, presumptuous. A bit like playing God.

In this song she is asking herself what would she do if she were God. She is amazed that God is letting it all happen: the world is not doing well. If she were God she would do better. She is singing it from the perspective of a disappointed girl, praying at the dinner table. Froukje herself is not religious however.

The 7 inch single was a gift on record store day. It is funny to see that nowadays singles come with an inner sleeve, something that was not customary when they were still popular. This one also is not equipped with the bigger center hole that many older singles have: that was a remainder of the days when they were used in juke boxes and other automated players.
