The levels of marketing incompetency in classical music never cease to amaze me. The title of this record is one of these good examples of how not to do it. When this passed the desk at the record company, did nobody pay attention?
It almost looks like this was a private project. I cannot find that much about the artists, except that one is Dutch, the other Hungarian, and that both are now teaching their respective instruments in their home country.
The recording is not bad though. Rachmaninov’s Cello Sonata is considered core repertoire, and it comes with some nice extras like the Vocalise. I wonder, would it still be possible nowadays to publish something like this? Or would it even be easier, given the possibilities of streaming?
