Another double version of the same recording, but this time it was meant like that. I bought a standard pressing of this album a couple of years back, but I decided I wanted to experiment with my ears a bit. I know the recording very well, so it seemed like a good choice to try out the Mobile Fidelity pressing. Since it is not available in Europe, I ordered it directly from the US, from Mobile Fidelity themselves.
MoFi didn’t have it anymore, so I put myself on the waiting list for a repressing. When it came out, I confirmed my order, and paid. The standard price of this record was five times higher than the record I already had! But oh… that was not all. I also had to pay transportation cost (€50), Tax (€30), importing cost (€40). What started as an intriguing little adventure turned out to be quite costly.
Was it worth it? Ordering it from the US – No. Getting another version – Yes. This recording sounds much, much better than the standard pressing. I have listened to it with many other people, who know the recording as well, but are not trained audio listeners. Yet they were able to hear the difference, also when tested blindly. Was the experiment a success then? Well, I did get some more records from MoFi, but never as good as this one.
