Fink’s sixth studio album from 2014, in a ten years’ anniversary edition with an extra disc. That extra disc makes this a worthwhile investment. I bought it at the concert in Paradiso, Amsterdam. My nimble girlfried was so nice to squeeze into the queue and let it be signed after the concert. In situations like that I’m not very useful, being a bit too bulky. She gets friendly smiles instead of the hard stares.
On the albums before, certainly on his first few albums, Fink’s lyrics are a bit pubescent sometimes. He sings about doing the naughty with the people at work and about what he will do in the dark. The progression of albums follows the progress in his life I suppose, and this is the middle phase, full of relationship issues and personal struggle. Of the songs on this album, I like Shakespeare the best, but the lead single would be Looking too closely.
