Perfect darkness

If you want to get to know Fink, listen to this album. It is a short version of whatever else he did, and serves as a good introduction that way. It came out in 2011, some years after his miraculous change from trip hop DJ and producer to singer songwriter. I’m trying to find out more about that, but the best album that bears witness to that would be Fresh produce from 2000. I cannot find it on streaming. Maybe YouTube might come to the rescue, but my YouTube is always packed with commercials.

Around 2000 producer Fin Greenall picked up his guitar during performances, just to test out his songs with voice. It seemed to have worked, and in 2006 record company Ninja Tunes supported his idea for a singer songwriter album.

There are more trip hoppers that made similar moves (Beth Orton, Hooverphonic), but Fink’s might be the most radical. His recordings keeps the atmosphere of trip hop though, and he keeps using some electronics. It might be just that which I like so much in his music.
