Brahms – Liebeslieder

Discogs

The duo Crommelynck was a piano duo between 1974 and 1994. The duo consisted of Patrick Crommelynck and his Japanese-born wife Taeko Kuwata. Over the years they recorded many classic works for piano four hands, including Schubert and Brahms, for the Swiss label Claves. They were quite successful.

And then in July 1994 Patrick Crommelynck committed suicide. The police report says his wife found him later in their house near Brussels, and did the same. The event shocked the world of classical music. No reason was ever given, though the wiki page I’ve read claims it was about an apparent crisis in their relationship. Without proof, we will never know. The sad thing is they will probably be better known for their ending than they ever were for their music.
