Mendelssohn – vioolconcert / Schumann – pianoconcert

The name of the pianist of the Schumann concerto might confuse you, as it did me. Young Stephen was born in Los Angeles in 1940 of Croatian-American descent. When his mother remarried he chose the new name Bishop, and his early recordings have that name. This recording is from 1971, so it fits that period. So the cover image Spotify shows is from that time. Stephen almost looks like a little kid there, by the way.

Stephen got confused with the guitarist Stephen Bishop, so he changed his name again, this time into Bishop-Kovacevich. That was somewhere in the 70s. So all three names can be found in this article.
