I wrote earlier about Wynton Marsalis. The trumpeter balances between jazz and classical music. Here he is heard in a pure classical piece, but he’s playing it with a jazz infusion. In the early 80s Marsalis was marketed as a dual talent, who could play both classic and jazz. His collection of trumpet concerts in that time was a great success.
On this release one of these concerts is combined with different Haydn concerts, one for violin and one for cello. The cello is performed by Yo-Yo Ma, the violin by the Taiwanese-American violinist Cho-liang Lin. These are all good performances, maybe mostly because of the recording.
