This record has been badly damaged by the faucet leak I had in 94. The recording itself is superb, as is the performance. But the cover is basically lost. If I take it out of the protective cover, there is still a slight musty smell from the moulds that are slowly eating it away.
Luckily they don’t like the black vinyl in there. Or if they do, I don’t hear it. Richter’s performance here is strong and what Gramophone magazine calls “muscular”. Personally, I think it is a good performance, but I recommend comparing this to some of the others. you’ll find that it is very dated. An interesting comparison might also be the recording Richter did two years earlier with Von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic.
