The Alexandrov Ensemble is better known as the Red Army Choir. It is a theatrical ensemble with dancers and an orchestra, founded in 1926. This is a two record boxed set with Russian traditional folk songs, brought to us by the Russian record company Melodia.

The Red Army Choir is really part of the Russian Army, so the liner notes that are supplied make reference to their manliness, in three languages. In 2016 they lost 63 of their member, along with the creative director in a plane crash over Socchi. They were replaced in time for the celebrations on Defender of the Fatherland Day in February 2017.

When I was young, my parents had a record of Francis Goya. On it, he was playing Russian melodies. I loved it. So most of the melodies on this record were already known to me from when I was a tiny little Arjan.
