I have already written about the Wachet auf, I don’t want another writeup about Bach Cantatas, so I wanted to write about Elly Ameling. I really like her voice, I have a couple of recordings, so here goes.

Ameling is rightly famous for her interpretations of German or French Songs (Lieder): Franz Schubert, Hugo Wolf, Gabriel Fauré and Francis Poulenc. This type of voice usually goes well with some religious works too. Ameling does not have the strong voice that is needed for opera, but hers is more subtle, more suited for a smaller stage.

After her very long career she was giving masterclasses that are I believe, still available on YouTube.
