Jonathan Livingston Seagull is the title of a novella from 1970 by Richard Bachman. It tells about a seagull that is tired of living the life of all other seagulls. Instead he wants to fly. He learns all kind of neat tricks and then returns to his flock to tell them about it.

Some years earlier I read the book, and I was fascinated. I recognised something in Jonathan maybe, I don’t know. I felt the odd one out, looking at others doing mundane, silly things. Like working…. doing sports… pfff.

Not much of that is left when Neil sings about it, but I liked his voice. This was the first time I came across it, I never really listened to him before. Luckily for my collection, it stayed that way.
