I’m every woman

Chaka Khan was born Yvette Stevens, then named Chaka by a Yoruba (a people from West Africa) high priest and then married to a Khan. She is one of the earliest singers in funk, and five decades later is still active.

She was discovered by two members of Chicago funk band Rufus, a band that is now mostly known for being the former band of Chaka Khan. Interestingly, she was also an aspiring Ikette: she wanted to be with Ike Turner in the early seventies. I cannot find this, but does that also mean she was a competition for Tina Turner?
