Out of Africa

During my high school years I had a history teacher that was quite popular because of his humor. Most kids at school wanted to choose his lessons because of the entertainment. When this film came out in 1986, he was making jokes about how bland the main character was. There was nothing exciting about her, and that was exactly how she was played.

That very short review of this classic made it into my memory, and characterized all the roles Meryl Streep had afterward. She’s a good actress, but forever destroyed (for me) by a careless remark. Talk about influence our teachers have on our perceptions!
