The suburbs

Discogs

The fourth album by the Canadian indie band Arcade Fire can be seen as neither for or against the typical American phenomenon suburbs. In fact, it seems like the album cannot choose between those: are the suburbs a source of nostalgia or are they a future dystopia?

Interestingly, the album was chosen for the 1001 Albums you must hear before you die collection of 2011, but the later version that I have doesn’t have it. I noticed that it doesn’t have that many albums from the 2010’s at all, even though I think this album certainly deserves it way more than many of the seven Neil Young albums that are there, with or without Crazy Horse.
