This is the tune of the weekly television show about classical music that is broadcast in the Netherlands. A cheerful tune, in a good performance and well recorded. And still, ever since I heard the recording of this by the Amsterdam Sinfonietta that appeared in 2004, it just pales in comparison. Let me put it here so you can compare!
A difference between these two is also that the second one is performed by a string orchestra, while the first is a sextet. In fact it is the only sextet Tchaikovsky wrote. He wrote it as a thank you note for the St Petersburg Chamber Music Society, for making him an honorary member. Tchaikovsky was visiting Florence.
