A whiter shade of pale

Discogs

A song that got its title from a sentence overheard at a party. It is describing girl meets boy ending up in sex, but in metaphorical form. The famous melody is based on a piece by Bach: the orchestral suite nr 3 (BWV 1068), the so called air on a G string.

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels ‘cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crown called out for more

After a long fight producer Jimmy Rabbitte has to admit it is not working. He wanted to get a bunch of whiter than white Dubliners to play blacker than black soul. The group split in a terrible row during a concert. At the end of this movie, The Commitments, he is interviewing himself in the bathtub. He is using these words, but says them as if they’re not a song. They sound strangely familiar.
