Prince got an Oscar for the title song of his movie Purple rain, also the title of the album and the song itself. How many times can you repeat purple rain? When asked what it means Prince said it meant blood in the sky. The red of the sky mixed with the blue of the sky produced the purple colour. When the world is about to be destroyed, and you are with the one you love, letting your faith guide you through the purple rain.
There is more on this record of course. The song Darling Nikki contains some risqué lyrics recorded in reverse. It lead to a parental guidance sticker on the cover. And then there is the famous When doves cry. Special because it totally lacks a bass line. Pretty unusual in pop music.
