Janáček – String quartet nos 1 & 2

Discogs

I have written twice now about the Janáčeks doomed infatuation with Kamila Stösslová, the woman that probably never had feelings for him, but was to receive a staggering 730 letters from him from 1917 unto his death in 1928. He also wrote the second string quartet to her.

These are both mature works, written by an experienced composer. This time the performance is by the Gabriele Quartet, an English Quartet, residing in Essex for years. They were founded in 1966. I cannot find exactly when they disbanded, but the cellist has died in 2017, and the last activity seems to be around 2000. Again I have not found this particular recording on Spotify. More’s the pity, for these are works that are worth the time to listen to.
