I’m starting to develop a real dislike for I Musici. I always thought they were quite something, but listening to the first half of this recording has been… challenging. The honey is dripping off the bows here. Music is allowed to hurt sometimes, so quit putting all that sweetness in my ear!
Having said that, the Nino Rota work is slightly better. Nino Rota is better known as the composer filmscores. Most notably among them is the first two parts of the Godfather trilogy, which earned him an Oscar in 1974. He wrote scores for more than 150 mostly Italian movies, including many Fellini films.
So I’m going to listen to the Rota concert after this, to get this I Musici feel out of my ears!
