This is an unofficial release put on the market after the bands’ fifteen year hiatus. Fields of the Nephilim is an English band formed around singer Carl McCoy. The style is gothic rock, with lots of attention to magic, pagan religion, Cthulhu and Aleister Crowley. Most of these are coming from McCoy himself. On stage they style themselves after characters from spaghetti westerns, complete with hats, dusters and dust. Performances are awesome, this record is not.
It surprises me that this is an unauthorized album, yet at the same time it was coming out as a special on Record Store Day. Those RSD releases are highly sought after, and this one is no exception. Every year I go for a visit and buy some of them, as they are worth the investment. The quality is a bit hit or miss though.
