Schubert – Streichquartette

Discogs

Not this album, but this track is on it

Schubert wrote his ninth string quartet before his twentieth birthday, in 1815. Little Franzl had an amazing talent, and the best years were still ahead. Short years though: he would find his end at his 31st. All of his material was written in a period of barely two decades. This record box has the last set of Schubert’s string quartets, beginning with that 9th.

When listening to the earliest string quartet of this set, it is important to realise that young Schubert created it for the enjoyment with his family. It is meant for household use, and is full of inspiration taken from his heroes Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn.
