Saxophone player Buddy Collette was a good friend of Charles Mingus. They played together in their first band, and according to the wiki page about him, it convinced Mingus to play bass instead of the cello. The world lost a good cellist there, alas. Collette connected during his life to a lot of great names in jazz. He was born in 1921 in Los Angeles, and encouraged to pick up music by his family. In his high school years he had his first gig in a band, and he was getting paid for it. And from the 40s onwards he got asked a lot for collaborations and recordings.
I don’t know about this one though. It is part of a series that the label Calliope released in the 70s. They were mostly collections of TV performances of the late 50s, like in this case KNBC TV from Burbank, 1956. So this is not a collaboration, but more a duo release: side A has Cannonball Adderley, side B Buddy Collette.
