Before I listened to this greatest hits collection of British glam rockers Mud, I didn’t even know the band. But about half of the songs was already known to me, so it seems I did know them. Mud was founded in 1966, I can imagine as kind of the Brits’ answer to Elvis Presley. In the early days, they were mostly inspired by 50s rockabilly.
Hits were scored between 1973 and 1976, with Dyna-mite and Tiger feet being the biggest. That last one was presented at BBC’s Top of the pops wearing tiger slippers. Mud disbanded in 1980 after some personnel changes and a name change didn’t bring back the earlier successes. Following that decision, there were multiple attempts to revive the band, sometimes under similar names, but always with permission of the founding members. As such, there are currently two bands still active, appropriately named Mud and Mud II.
