Hogtied revisited

In 2002 Oregon singer Jake Smith released his debut album called Hogtied like a rodeo. Maybe he didn’t like the way it was recorded, because he redid it in a friend’s living room six years later. This is the result, hence revisited. Both are self released and can be considered his first album.

After the two albums I have, The White Buffalo had a breakthrough: he was discovered by none other than pro surfer and film maker Chris Malloy. His music was featured in his films, and from there in TV series. About Sons of Anarchy he said in an interview in 2012 that they used the songs as part of the show, not as background, but as part of the story. I suppose I recognize that, the stories that are in the songs are similar to the stories covered in the series.

I also think that after that period, Smith’s music changed, and became more rock instead of folk. I think that is what bugged me at that one concert I visited in 2022: it just was not the style I expected.
