Joan Baez’ fourth live album and the first from a country in Europe, released in 1969. It shows Baez in her original, folky style. I find those early recordings of her voice refreshing and quite beautiful. This is no exception. However, it is also filled with angry admonitions and even snarls at the Italian audience. Somehow they never stop talking during the concert, and it feels like Baez is fighting herself through all of that.
I didn’t do a close comparison, but it seems to me this is mostly the same repertoire as on her In concert records from a little earlier. Her concern with the war in Vietnam couples here with an almost apologetic attitude towards the Italians: I’m sorry to be an American. The noisy audience and the clear annoyance from Baez aside, this is a good album. I did find it on YouTube, so maybe you can find it there.
