The latest release of Stromae, from 2022. That means I bought this in the same year it came out. That is something that doesn’t happen to often. The hits of this album were Santé and L’enfer.
Stromae’s musical style is derived from what has been called New Beat. A style from Belgium acts, connected to so called EBM and new wave. I find that interesting, because it explains why I like this music. It connects to that part of me that like bands like Front 242 and DAF. So that is the answer I should have given my girlfriend, when she was so amazed with me (as written about yesterday).
Having said that, this is by far not the only act from Belgium I appreciate. Somehow I seem to pick up a lot of these highly creative bands. I think the country has not much to offer with respect to architecture (I think the cities in Belgium are just plain ugly) but they more than make up for it in music. Bravo!
