Geld oder Leben

The fifth album of EAV containing the big hit that made it out into the rest of the world. I stumbled on a podcast made in 2012 about the tour following the release, in 1985. I tried to listen to it, but three hours of Austrian German is a bit much.

The song Märchenprinz was the first hit in Germany. It is a song about a guy from the city trying to get laid by finding a girl in the countryside. He gets into a fight in a bar and is arrested. He calls himself the fairy tale prince.

The lyrics of the title song are exactly what you expect: it is about the ever present power of money. In that sense the hit single Ba-ba-Banküberfall tell the same story. Struggling through the band’s website, I found this funny little story about the song: it is inspired by a real event, where a bankrobber tried to get money at gunpoint, using a plastic toy gun. In a heroic move, it was not given to him, so he left the bank. This is also the story of the song. What the song doesn’t tell is that the culprit left his briefcase with his name and address.
